Luscious, sweet, and slightly tart, strawberries are the perfect bite-sized summer fruit. They also add a pop of ruby red to cocktails and sweet and savory dishes. We are super excited to share our favorite Strawberry Recipes.
Grocery stores have celebrated National Strawberry Day, which takes place on February 27, since 2013.
Here are some fun facts about the juicy red fruit we all know and love:
- There are over 600 strawberry varieties.
- It’s no surprise that National Strawberry Day falls during the month of love, as strawberries are a known aphrodisiac. Doesn’t that make chocolate-covered strawberries sound a lot sweeter?
- Not all strawberries are bright red. Other less common varieties are white, yellow, and pink.
- Americans consume an average of eight pounds of strawberries each year.
- Strawberry seeds are located on the exterior of the fruit.
- California produces 80 percent of the American strawberry harvest.
- According to California Strawberries a serving of 8 strawberries fulfills the recommended value of Vitamin C for an entire day!
Strawberry Recipes
Strawberry season runs from May to July, and many grocery stores even offer specials around National Strawberry Day that encourage stocking up.
Consider freezing your own while strawberries are in season. Frozen strawberries can be substituted where fresh ones are called for and are the easiest way to ensure you always have some fruit on hand to experiment with.
If you live near any strawberry farms, you can even consider picking your own to take home. We suggest setting aside some fresh ones to use right away, then freezing the rest to let your bounty last.
Our favorite recipes with strawberries include strawberry pie, spinach & strawberry salad, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry sauce, strawberry cobbler, strawberry cream cheese frosting, and so many strawberry dessert recipes I could bake for hours.
Some mornings we drop chopped fresh berries in our Greek yogurt for breakfast.
Strawberry Fluff Salad

Whether coated in white chocolate or vanilla almond bark, these adorable strawberry ghosts are frightfully wonderful to eat.

Strawberry Poke Cake
Poke cake gets its name from the holes poked in it after baking, usually using the end of a wooden spoon.
In our recipe, strawberry Jello and Cool Whip topping are layered to fill these holes. The cake is then refrigerated to allow it to stabilize. For a twist, you can swap Cool Whip for any topping or frosting you enjoy, including chocolate.

Strawberry Bruschetta Appetizer
We happened upon this recipe the year we visited the strawberry forms in California.
Fresh strawberries, refreshing mint, and a rich blend of ricotta and goat cheese come together for a light brunch appetizer or anytime snack.
For a lighter version, replace the two kinds of cheese with soft Italian mascarpone. This recipe post also has guidance on the proper way to clean strawberries.
You can spread this on your morning toast for a great breakfast.
Crock Pot Strawberry Jam
Thanks to my dear Mom, I got the push I needed to continue making jams and jellies, including this one. I was sold once she suggested I make this jam Crock Pot style. We first made this for John’s nephew during a blazing hot Spokane summer that reached over 105 degrees. This strawberry soda fountain classic requires only four ingredients - vanilla ice cream, milk, strawberries, and sugar - and five minutes of prep time.
For more strawberry goodness, use strawberry ice cream instead of vanilla ice cream.
Top your milkshake with whipped cream, swirl chocolate sauce inside your glass before serving, or both. We won’t judge!

Favorite Kitchen Tools
These are some of our favorite kitchen tools when making strawberry recipes. We used these daily as we work in the kitchen.
Heat resistant potholders - A couple of years ago, we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on, and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then, we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.
Baking Sheets - We are huge fans of these baking sheets with sides. You don't have to worry; you will remove the cookies from the oven and have them slide right off.
Microwave Silicone cover - I swear by these lid covers to help prevent butter splatters when melting butter in the microwave. I have had way too many butter explosions while baking. These lid covers help keep the butter in the bowl and not on the roof of your microwave.
Large Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.
Hand Mixer/Stand Mixer - You can mix this with either a hand mixer or your stand mixer.
Parchment Paper - I love that I can use parchment paper to help make it easier to remove the brownie/ cookies. They also make clean-up a breeze. If you are not using parchment paper you will want to spray non-stick cooking spray on your baking sheet to help the cookies not stick.
Blender - We are big fans of the Ninja Blender and how well it makes frozen drinks and milkshakes

I'm going to try the crockpot freezer jam this spring. I didn't think freezer jam could get any easier, but this is it! My favorite strawberry recipes are cobbler, and using fresh strawberries in spinach salad.
