During our trip to Reno, we spent a day in Virginia City and had the chance to ride the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. The ride lasts 35 minutes and is a great way to see the mining history and historic towns of the area.
Virginia and Truckee Railroad
There is ample indoor and outdoor seating available on the train. The ride is comfortable and really relaxing. You have the chance to see some of the abandoned mines and old buildings along the way.
You can easily switch sides of the train so you see both sides of the route. The train stops in the town of Gold Hill and you have the chance to get off and explore the city. You can catch the next train that comes into the station.
SCHEDULE Daily from May 24 through October 31.

My youngest son loves trains so I bet he'd enjoy this. I like that you can take a ride and sightsee in the towns as well!

How meat, we have an old railway that runs weekly, and even does dinner theater- if it's anything like this, then we really need to go. I just love historical outings with scenic value.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I would definitely love to visit there one day soon. I need to get out from underneath all this snow!
