Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
You can swap the bacon for another type, like turkey. You can even use ham instead of bacon if you make this dish around the holidays and have leftover ham to use up.
Similarly, replace the cheddar cheese if you prefer another flavor. This is great with Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, or Colby Jack.ย
Vegetarian Option: Remove the bacon or replace it with meatless bacon to turn this recipe into a yummy vegetarian CrockPot recipe.
Vegan Option: In addition to the guidance for vegetarians, vegans should replace eggs and shredded cheddar cheese with plant-based alternatives to make this recipe vegan.
Gluten-Free: This recipe should be gluten-free since none of its ingredients typically contain gluten. Check for a gluten-free label on your bacon, as this ingredient may have gluten-containing additives.
Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: The written recipe makes six servings and scales quickly to your desired yield. You may need to work in batches if you scale up, depending on your CrockPotโs capacity.
Make It Spicy: Add more dried chili flakes or a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce to spice up this slow cooker breakfast casserole.
Sugar-Free: This savory breakfast casserole contains no natural sugars.
