Arby's Horsey Sauce is a horseradish mayo combination perfect for roast beef sandwiches. This easy-to-make, four-ingredient copycat sauce recipe only takes minutes to prepare at home.
Arby's Horsey Sauce Recipe
My husband loves Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches. They are one of his favorite fast-food lunches to grab on the go. Being home this past year, he started missing many of his favorite restaurant meals.
I have been working on making as many copycat restaurant recipes as I can at home. You no longer have to try and stash away extra small packets of Horsey Sauce when you visit Arby's.
You can easily make this sauce at home and not have a fridge full of condiments you can't remember when you grabbed them and have no idea how old they are.
There is nothing quite like the mix of unknown condiments from restaurants stuffed in the butter drawer of a refrigerator.
We love Arby's and hope you love these other great easy recipes we have shared - Jamocha Shake and Arby's Sauce!
Ingredients
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Arbyโs Horsey Sauce! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Cream Style Horseradish
- Mayonnaise
- Sugar
- Saltย
Horseradish - There are quite a few options for horseradish at the grocery store these days. I normally find it in the condiment section near the mustard. I highly suggest going with creamy horseradish to save yourself the step of having to blend the horseradish to get the chunks out of it. You can also find it on Amazon.
Equipment Needed
One of the best parts of this recipe is you don't need any special equipment! All you need is a small bowl and a spoon.
We mix our Horsey Sauce in a large bowl and then transfer it to a smaller container for chilling in the refrigerator. I like using a big bowl to mix everything so I have space to get all the ingredients combined.ย
How to Make Copycat Arby's Horsey Sauce
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl, Stir until well mixed together.
- Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.ย
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead:
Plan time for the Horsey Sauce to sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour. The longer this sauce sits in the fridge, the better the flavors meld together, and it tastes fantastic.
Storage: Always keep leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container, and enjoy them within four days.
Freezing/How to Freeze: The mayonnaise in this sauce makes it a poor candidate for freezing. It will separate and develop an off texture once defrosted.
How to Reheat: Always serve this horseradish mayo sauce cold, as this is when anything with mayonnaise is at its recommended temperature.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions:

Vegetarian Option: This recipe is naturally vegetarian.
Vegan Option: Vegans should swap the mayonnaise and creamy horseradish with vegan substitutes to make this copycat Arbyโs Horsey Sauce vegan.
Gluten-Free: The ingredients in this sauce recipe are generally gluten-free, but look for a gluten-free label on the mayonnaise and horseradish if you are highly sensitive and want to avoid cross-contamination.
Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: This recipe makes one cup of Horsey Sauce. Scale it up or down to your desired yield.
Make It Spicy: Use spicy horseradish to kick up the heat of your sauce.
Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 20 grams in each cup of sauce. Replace the creamy horseradish and white sugar with sugar-free substitutes, to make it sugar-free.
