Cherry Fluff Salad Recipe
This year I have been diving deep into Jello Cool Whip salads. They are so easy to make and always taste amazing. They remind me of the fun jello salads my grandmother would make when we visited.
A few of my favorites include this Orange Dreamsicle Salad, Mandarin Orange Jello Salad, and Green Jello Salad.
I love that you can make them up ahead of time and let them rest in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve them. With only 5 ingredients they have become a family favorite dessert salad. I have to admit I think the term dessert salad is a little funky. LOL!
Maybe it is just me but the terms salad compared to dessert bring very different things to my mind. We serve this cherry fluff salad during the main meal so I guess it is more of a side dish but could easily be served for dessert too.
Whenever you serve it this cherry fluff recipe is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
Jan a Facebook fan let me know her family calls this Junkyard Salad. What do you call it?
Ingredients
- Cool Whip
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Cherry Pie Filling
- Crushed Pineapple
- Mini Marshmallows
Optional - Shredded coconut, chopped pecans, fresh cherry pieces {make sure to remove the pits}, mandarin oranges,
Cool Whip - You can use regular or lite cool whip with this recipe
Cherry Pie Filling - You can change it up and use Strawberry Pie Filling or Blueberry Pie Filling instead of Cherry if desired.
Mini Marshmallows - If you are not a fan of mini marshmallows they can easily be left out of the recipe.
Tools Needed
Large Bowl - Use a bigger bowl than you think you will need. This will make it a lot easier to mix everything together and hopefully keep it from overflowing all over the counter.
Spatula/wooden spoon - a spatula works great for getting all of the ingredients mixed together.
Recipe Tips
Use a bigger bowl than you think you will need!!!
Don't forget to drain the crushed pineapple! You want to minimize the extra pineapple juice that gets into the cherry pie fluff so it holds its texture and pink color.
Cool Whip is the perfect whipped topping for this recipe. Homemade whipped cream will lose its texture and start to fall apart to quickly to hold this cherry fluff together.
This recipe is also referred to as cherry pie filling dessert, sugar salad, cherry pie fluff, cherry cool whip salad, or cherry dump salad depending on what part of the country you live in.
You can change up the mini marshmallows and use the multi-colored marshmallows for added color in this dessert salad. This is super fun for Easter.
I leave the pecans/walnuts out of this recipe since many of our family members can not eat nuts. We put the chopped nuts in a bowl next to this cherry fluff salad so guests can add the nuts in if they want them.
You can also place additional maraschino cherries and marshmallows next to this cherry salad so people can dress up their cherry fluff if they wish to. This is always amusing when the kids start adding to their bowls during Christmas family dinner.
You can also add in cream cheese if you want to change it up a bit.
