Easy Mummy Hot Dogs that are perfect for Halloween fun! These easy crescent mummy dogs take minutes to prepare and taste amazing.
Mummy Hot Dogs
We first shared these mummy dogs back in October 2012. It is one of our oldest posts that definitely needed some love.
It's funny how much things change in 10 years.
Thankfully these hot dog mummies are still amazing this many years ago. This year I decided to make regular Halloween mummy hot dogs and walking Mummy Hot Dogs.
The walking mummies are a fun twist on the traditional recipe and can be made at the same time.
Making these Crescent Roll Hot Dog Mummies spurred me on to make a ton of mummy desserts. My husband keeps laughing at all of the things I turned into mummies this weekend.
So today is officially the start of Mummy Week. LOL! Get ready for mummy twinkies, mummy Rice Krispie Treats, Mummy Donuts, and so much more.
We already have Mummy Cake Pops so it is time to add even more mummies to our Halloween recipes.
I am also working on savory mummy dishes! I may even try to make an entire mummy board of goodness.
Normally I am not a very crafty person so I love how easy it is to turn things into mummies. All you need is a few ingredients and you have a fun Halloween dinner, appetizer, or snack.
Not just for kids these Mummy Hot Dogs with Crescent Rolls taste amazing and are a fun twist on pigs in a blanket for a Halloween appetizers.
These are a great snack before trick or treating. Pair them with a few Mummy Quesadillas for an epic Halloween meal.
Ingredients
This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make Crescent Roll Mummy Dogs! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Hot Dogs
- Pillsbury Crescent Roll Dough
- Mustard or Ketchup for Eyes.
Optional - Slice of American Cheese, candy eyeballs.
Equipment Needed
Cookie Sheet - We are huge fans of these baking sheets with sides. You don't have to worry; you will remove the Mummy Hot Dogs from the oven and have them slide right off.
Parchment Paper -ย I love that I can use parchment paper to help make it easier to remove the mummy dogs. They also make clean-up a breeze. If you are not using parchment paper you will want to spray non-stick cooking spray on your baking sheet to help the hot dog mummies not stick.
Sharp Knife/Scissors
Pizza Cutter
Heat resistant potholdersย - A couple of years ago we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.
How to make Hot Dog Mummies
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
Step 1 - We use a pizza cutter to cut thin strips/slices of the crescent dough to create the mummy wrapping around the hot dogs.
Step 2 - Wrap each hot dog to look like bandages wrapped around the hot dog. Separate bandages to leave space for the face.
Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Step 3- Bake until dough is golden brown. Draw faces with mustard. Dots of mustards are perfect for the eyes. For bigger eyes you can use candy eyes.
We use the end of a toothpick to help create the eyes.
How to make Walking Mummy Dogs
To make Walking Mummy Dogs use a knife or kitchen scissors to cut a slit at the bottom of the hot dog for the mummy's legs.
You can also cut arms by making two slits along the side of the hot dog to make hot dog mummies with arms and legs.
Wrap strips of dough around the sections making sure to separate the legs so they show.
Bake as usual.
Air Fryer Crescent Mummy Dogs
Follow normal instructions to the baking section.
Set air fryer to 3225 degrees and cook for 6 to 7 minutes until crescent dough is light brown.
Use tongs to rotate the Pillsbury hot dog mummies and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
Make sure to use kitchen tongs to remove the Crescent hot dog mummies from the air fryer.
Tips for the best Mummy Hot Dogs
These Halloween crescent wrapped Hot Dog Mummies can be served with bowls of ketchup, mustard, or barbecue sauce for dipping sauces.
You can add slice cheese under the crescent dough just make sure to bake the cheese side down.
Candy eyeballs can be used to really make the eyes pop.
