Cracker Barrel Green Beans Recipe
We shared this recipe while missing being able to drop into Cracker Barrel for a delicious comfort food meal. Our closest Cracker Barrel is in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We were not leaving the house, let alone driving across state lines.
There are talks about getting a Spokane restaurant at some point, but we have yet to see one! I am crossing my fingers and toes that we get a Cracker Barrel close to home.
Until then, I am working on making Cracker Barrel recipes at home. These Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Country Green Beans with bacon are so easy to make and delicious.
The bacon and onions add so much flavor to the green beans. It is the perfect side dish for family dinners or holiday meals!
Ingredients Needed
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make epic Cracker Barrel Green Beans! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Slices of Thick-Cut Bacon
- Green Beans
- Onion
- Sugar
- Salt
- Pepper
Equipment Needed
- Large Dutch Oven with a Lid or a 2-quart Saucepan
- Kitchen Spoon/Stirring Utensil
- Heat-Resistant Potholders: A couple of years ago, we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on, and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully, we walked by the kitchen, saw the smoke, and got it out ourselves. Since then, we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.ย

Preparation and Storage
Make-Ahead: This green bean recipe is easy-peasy if you prep the bacon and onions beforehand! We spend a few times a month prepping staples we use often, such as veggies, and tossing them in the freezer for later use.
Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container and enjoy them within three to five days.
Freezing/How to Freeze: You can portion the green beans into an airtight, freezer-safe container and freeze them for up to three months. When ready to serve them, just thaw them out and heat them in the microwave.
How to Reheat: You can reheat leftovers using your microwave or skillet, depending on how many portions you prepare.
ย
Recipe Variations
Substitutions: We use canned green beans for convenience since they donโt require prep, and we make many green bean dishes at our house. You can use blanched green beans if you prefer fresh veggies.
Vegetarian + Vegan Option: Swap the bacon with a meat-free alternative to make these Cracker Barrel Green Beans vegetarian and vegan!
Gluten-Free: This recipe should be gluten-free, as none of the ingredients typically contain gluten. Check for a gluten-free label on the bacon and canned green beans if you are highly sensitive, as these ingredients may contain additives that may not be gluten-safe.
Alcohol-Free Option: We havenโt seen any boozy versions of these Copycat Cracker Barrel Green Beans, and we donโt use alcohol in this recipe.
Smaller Serving Size: The written recipe makes eight servings. Scale it up or down to your desired yield.
Make It Spicy: Add a bit of spice by adding ยผ teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
Larger Group/More Servings: You can easily double or triple this recipe, depending on how many people you serve. I like using a large Dutch oven or large pan for huge batches to ensure the green beans have enough space to simmer on the stovetop.
Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 6 grams of sugar per serving. Use a sugar-free bacon and white sugar alternative to make it sugar-free.
