You can have an epic, easy Buffalo Chicken Dip in less than an hour!
Every time we bring this easy appetizer recipe to a party, it disappears in the blink of an eye. It is a classic appetizer for a reason!
All it takes is five ingredients to whip up this easy chicken appetizer.
I will confess that I made this recipe this past summer while we still had enough sunlight to get quality photos to share. I always make it during the winter and find that Spokane weather is not the best for happy photos.
My husband came home excited to see this buffalo ranch chicken dip waiting for him. I had to take photos quickly, so he couldn't dive into it before I had taken them.
You can also make this dip in the CrockPot if you want to pre-make it before an event.
We recently visited Buffalo, New York, and my husband had the opportunity to try Buffalo Chicken Wings at the original restaurant, the Anchor Bar.
He was so excited to try the wings and see how they compare to what we get in Spokane. The buffalo sauce they used was excellent.
Ingredients
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Frank's Buffalo Chicken Dip! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Rotisserie Chicken/Shredded White Meat Chicken
- Cream Cheese
- Ranch Salad Dressing
- Frank's RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce
- Cheddar Cheeseย
Serve with corn chips, tortilla chips, celery sticks and carrots, bell pepper strips, toasted bread, pita chips, crackers, vegetables, and sliced baguettes
Optional - Garnish with blue cheese crumbles, green onions/scallions, chives, parsley
Chicken - We use a Costco rotisserie chicken that we cut up. You can also substitute slow cooker shredded chicken breast or canned chicken. Any of these options work great.
Cream Cheese - Make sure to use a block form of cream cheese and not the spreadable cream cheese. Full-fat block cream cheese works best. Low fat cream cheese can separate.
Ranch Dressing - This cools down the heat from the hot sauce and adds an epic flavor. You can also use blue cheese dressing if you prefer that flavor.
Cheese - You can use sharp or medium cheddar cheese, white cheddar, Colby-jack, tex-mex really any cheese you love that is shredded and melts easily.
Equipment Needed
- Large Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.
- 9X13 Casserole Dish/baking dish
If you are taking this dip to a party or event you can make it in a heavy disposable foil pan or a small slow cooker.

Step 2 - Melt cream cheese and ranch dressing in microwave in a large bowl, mix together. Add in chopped chicken and mix well.
Step 3 - Spread cream cheese ranch chicken mixture in the bottom of a large casserole dish.
Step 4 - Cover chicken mixture with Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce evenly.
Step 5 - Cover with shredded cheddar cheese evenly spread out. Feel free to add more cheese on top if you want it super cheesy.
Bake until hot and bubbly.
