Eggnog Coffee
Have you ever wondered whether you can put eggnog in coffee? If so, the answer is YES!
You only need two ingredients to make this perfect hot winter drink. You can customize it with whipped cream, cinnamon, or nutmeg, or add some of your favorite booze to make it a cocktail.
This espresso drink is one of our favorite holiday drinks. My husband starts every day by making a whole pot of coffee. He is a sleepy bear before his first cup of coffee, which always makes me giggle.
Being a morning person, I always start talking with him, and he just looks at me and holds up his coffee cup to remind me he is not awake quite yet.
We started making fun coffee drinks at home when our love for Starbucks eggnog lattes and pumpkin spice lattes began making a big dent in our checkbook.
Now, we have fun creating new coffee drinks we can enjoy at home in our pajamas and not having to leave the house.

Seeing non-alcoholic eggnog in our local grocery store before Halloween amazed me.
Ingredients
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Egg nog Coffee! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Eggnog
- Coffeeย
Eggnog - Homemade eggnog or store-bought eggnog.
Coffee - Your favorite brewed coffee works great. We even use Starbucks Via instant coffee some mornings depending on how quickly we need a cup of coffee and don't want to wait for the coffee maker.
Optional - Whipped cream and nutmeg or ground cinnamon to garnish the top.
Frothed milk is a fun option to make this drink even more festive. The combination of milk and eggnog in coffee is great.
Add a dash of vanilla extract for a fun additional flavor.
Pour a bit of whiskey into the coffee-eggnog mixture to make this an alcoholic beverage.
Equipment Needed
- Coffee Maker: Make your favorite coffee in a Keurig, on the stovetop, with a coffee maker, with an espresso machine, or with instant coffee.
- Saucepan
- Whisk
- Coffee Mug: You can also serve this in a moose mug from National Lampoons family vacation. LOL!
- Milk Frother: This tool is optional, but use it to froth some milk into your coffee.
How to Make Eggnog Coffee
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
- Add eggnog to a saucepan over low to medium heat.
- Add coffee and stir until your beverage reaches the desired temperature.
- Enjoy! Top with whipped cream, ground nutmeg, or cinnamon if desired.
- Microwave Method: If using a microwave, slowly heat the eggnog until hot but not boiling. Add it to hot coffee and stir.
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead: Transfer your Eggnog Coffee to a CrockPot and keep it warm on the lowest setting for a one-and-done shortcut to a batch of drinks for a group!
Storage: Eggnog is suitable for up to five days when refrigerated, so store any leftover Eggnog Coffee in an airtight container and enjoy it within this time frame.
Freezing/How to Freeze: We donโt recommend freezing leftovers of this drink, as anything with dairy tends to separate when thawed, and the recipe is easy enough to make it as you want.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
You can prepare this recipe with homemade or store-bought eggnog and your favorite brewed coffee. We use Starbucks Via instant coffee on some mornings, depending on how quickly we need a cup and whether we donโt want to wait for the coffee maker.
Use decaf coffee for the Eggnog Coffee flavor without the caffeine.
Vegetarian Option: This holiday beverage recipe is vegetarian.
Vegan Option: Use a plant-based eggnog to make vegan Eggnog Coffee.
Gluten-Free: Store-bought eggnog may contain additives unsafe for a gluten-free diet, so search for a gluten-free label to make this recipe gluten-free.
Alcohol-Free Option: We donโt use alcohol in this Eggnog Coffee, but you can pour a bit of whiskey, rum, bourbon, brandy, Fireball, or boozy eggnog into the coffee-eggnog mixture to make this an eggnog coffee cocktail.
Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: We use two parts of coffee for every part of eggnog, although you can adjust the level to taste. Scale the written recipe to your desired yield, and check out our tip above on using your slow cooker to keep portions warm for group serving!
Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 20 grams of sugar per serving. Use sugar-free eggnog to make it sugar-free.
