Thank you so much for visiting the blog! Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive!
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign up for your email updates?
You can sign up for emails by visiting here (update coming soon). We send out a weekly email highlighting great recipes, travel, and life updates.
What camera equipment do you use?
We currently use a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with either a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens or a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens depending on what we are shooting.
Before Spring 2014, we shot with a Canon 70D.
Many of the photos you see on Instagram and social sharing are taken with our Samsung Galaxy S10+ phones.
Do you use special lighting for your photos?
We try to use natural light for our photos as much as we possibly can, but we do live in Spokane, and it gets dark early. For those days that natural light is not my friend we use this Photography/Video Portrait Umbrella Continuous Triple Lighting Kit
I also really like this Portable Oval Collapsible Multi-Disc Reflector Kit to help reflect light.
Who takes the photos on your blog?
Both John and Tammilee take photos for the blog. 99% of the photos shared on the blog are taken by one of us. Every once in a while, we visit a destination or attend a production that does not allow us to take our own photos and we share their photos. We try to share our own photos as much as possible so you can see what we see during our travels.
Can I write a guest post on your site?
Currently, we do not accept guest posts on our site.
Do you have any tips for starting a blog?/Can you help me make money with my blog?
Check out our blogging resource page which lists a ton of the companies that we work with and the blogging classes we have enjoyed.
Recipes
Can you give me the nutritional breakdown of this recipe?
There should be nutritional information on the recipe card for each recipe. I have to enter them individually so there may be a few I am still working through.
Can I substitute an ingredient?
Maybe, probably, hopefully...... I know that is not the best answer, but I am honestly not sure.
Each recipe is different, and it depends on the changes you are making. I prepared the recipe as it is listed on the blog and try and share any adaptions we make to them over time.
Make sure and check out the comment section below each recipe to see if anyone else has made the adaption. You can also ask in comments to see if anyone else has tried it.
I tried one of your recipes, and it didn't turn out! What did I do wrong?
Oh my goodness! I wish I could help pinpoint a specific reason for the recipe going sideways.
It may depend on a number of factors including but not limited to the type of crock pot/stove/microwave you are using. Each one heats up differently so the timing may have been off. It may also have to do with so many other factors.
I highly suggest checking the comment section under each recipe to see if anyone else has ideas on how to fix it.
I try and answer all of the questions I can but without being in your kitchen I may not be able to pinpoint the reason it didn't work.
Travel
How do you get to travel so much?
We are blessed to be able to work with amazing destinations and share them on the blog. We also have a dedicated travel fund that we put money away in each month.
We have made travel a huge focus in our lives and put a portion of our income to travel each month.
Do you have any dream destinations?
Oh my gosh too many to list all of them! We dream of visiting the South Pacific (a hut overlooking the water in Fiji or Bora Bora or Tahiti would not make me sad at all!), taking an African Safari, the Maldives, Seeing the polar bears in Manitoba, Visiting America Samoa and going to the National Park and so many other places.
Life
Is blogging your full-time job?
Blogging is Tammilee's full-time job and has been for the past 14+ years. John has an outside the house job and also runs ParkRangerJohn.com.
Do you have any kids?
We do not have any kids. We do have 6 lovely cats named Athena No Name Cat, Fluffy, Bandit, Squeaky P, Ninja, and our newest Westin AKA Itty Bitty.
All of the cats are rescue cats from when we lived in a state park except Westin who we rescued in Kentucky on a cold snowy morning.
How long have you been married? How did you meet?
We were married in September 2008 in Leavenworth, Washington. We got married outside of a dairy barn and had the reception in a hayloft. We met online three years before we were married.
The crazy thing is our lives have been intertwined for years, and we just didn't know it. John and I lived across the street from each other for years, went to the same gym, shopped in the same grocery store and so many other odd things and had no idea until our first date.
To make it even a bit crazier I visited the park John was a ranger at way back when I was in college for multiple days and stayed in the exact area that John was managing. It just took a while for life to bring us finally together.
Do you have any other websites?
Yes, We currently have 3 websites and may roll out a 4th one this year. I know it sounds crazy but we really love what we do.
Park Ranger John - This is John's website that shares epic information about outdoor recreation, national parks, state parks, and so much more!
Gulf Coast Journeys - This is our newest website that talks about our love of traveling to the Gulf Coast and beach time!
Please let us know if you have any other questions! Thank you so much for spending time with us!
