How To Make Grinch Jello Shots (Easy, Delicious, Festive)

Are you thinking about Christmas parties and party desserts? We have been deep diving into all sorts of candy cane peppermint recipes and all the Christmas fun recipes we can think of.

As soon as Halloween was over we packed up the orange and black decorations and started holiday baking!

Overnight our house switched completely to Thanksgiving and Christmas Cocktail recipes. My husband laughed when he came into the kitchen and it had been redone while he was sleeping.

For a fun look, you can pair these Grinch Jello Shots with our fun Strawberry Jello Shots to make a Christmas platter.

Ingredients

This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make epic green Jell-O Shots inspired by the Grinch Movies! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

• Green Jello/Green Gelatin
• Vodka
• Water - Boiling and Cold

Optional Garnish - Whipped cream, red heart candies, red sprinkles, heart sprinkles, maraschino cherries

Vodka - You can use plain vodka or flavored depending on your flavor choice. This recipe can easily be adapted to use rum, whiskey, or tequila or any other liquors.

Optional - You can change the vodka and use peppermint schnapps for a seasonal flavor. Just make sure the base Jello flavor works well with peppermint.

Equipment Needed

Jell-O Shot Cups - We suggest using two-ounce Jell-O shot plastic cups. You can make these in regular shot glasses but will need to make sure guests can enjoy them. Tall shot glasses can be difficult without a small spoon.

Measuring Cups

Whisk/Spoon to stir everything together.

OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails. You want something with a spout to easily pour with.

Heat resistant microwave safe bowl - We use a 4 cup Pyrex large measuring cup, and it works fantastic. You can also use a small or medium saucepan and heat the water on the stovetop.

9x13 casserole baking dish – We put the Jello Shot Cups in a casserole dish to help keep them contained and catch any splashes that may happen.

How to make Grinch Jello Shots

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Step 1 - Gather supplies and line a 9x13 baking dish with plastic shot glasses.

Step 2 - Combine boiling water with lime Jello mix until completely dissolved.

Step 3 - Pour in vodka and cold water until completely mixed.

Step 4 - Carefully pour the liquid Jello mixture into the Jell-o Shots Cups until ⅔ to ¾ of the way full.

Step 5 - Carefully place the green jello shots in the fridge to set for a few hours or overnight.

Step 6 - Top with whipped cream and a red heart candy for epic Grinch Christmas Jello Shots.

Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead – These Grinch Jello Shots can be made a couple of days ahead of time. Just wait to garnish them until serving.

Storage – Store with the lids on the Jello Shot Cups in the fridge.

Freezing/How to freeze – We do not suggest freezing Jello. The texture will change and it will not taste as great.

Substitutions - Feel free to change up the Jello Flavor or Alcohol used

Vegetarian Option - Plant based gelatin can be used to make these vegetarian.

Vegan Option – Vegan Jello mixes can be used to make these vegan.

Gluten Free -  Jello is considered Gluten Free

Alcohol Free Option – These can be made into Grinch Jello Mocktails by leaving off the vodka or you can use a non-alcoholic vodka.

Smaller Serving Size – The serving size on the recipe card below can be change to make a smaller serving.

Larger Group/More servings – This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for large events.

Sugar Free – Sugar Free Jello can be used to lower the sugar content.

Recipe Tips

I highly suggest having some cleaner and towels nearby just in case green liquid splashes on your counter or anyplace you don't want it. We use a baking pan to try and control any mess.

For a stronger holiday flavor you can add peppermint extract and vodka in the Jello Shots.

These can be made with strawberry Jell-O if you want a red Jello Shot.
