How can you go wrong with an epic chili cheese dog!
Summer is almost here and I am so ready for it! We had the first 70-degree day in Spokane and everyone was out in shorts and tank tops. Who am I kidding we started seeing people in shorts when the weather got over 50 degrees.
After what feels like a super long winter we are all ready to get outside and have fun!
Summer makes me think of barbecues, great music, and fun. I am so ready to get outside.
Ingredients
- Ground Beef
- Onion
- Tomato Sauce
- Yellow Mustard
- Chili Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Brown Sugar
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Beef Stock
Additional toppings - cheddar cheese, ketchup, mustard, relish, diced onions, or anything you love on a hot dog.
Ground Beef - You can easily substitute ground turkey for this recipe or a veggie option. If you switch to a vegetarian beef just make sure you switch to a vegetable stock.
Tools Needed
Skillet - You want to use a skillet or dutch oven large enough to brown the ground beef until no longer pink. The skillet needs to be able to hold all the ingredients while they simmer.
Wooden Spoon
Hamburger Mix n Chop - The hamburger mix and chop is our favorite way to break up the ground beef into small chunks. You don't want giant chunks of ground beef in your hot dog chili sauce.
Recipe Tips
We paired this hot dog chili with air fryer hot dogs. You can also boil hot dogs if you don't have an air fryer.
You want to plan to simmer the beef hot dog chili for a minimum of 15 minutes. We simmer our chili for over an hour so it is always hot and ready. Just make sure the chili does not burn to the bottom of the pan. You will want to keep an eye on the heat.
This chili does not have beans in it but you can add in drained beans if you like them.
If you want a super smooth hot dog chili you can use an immersion blender to really break down the ground beef and mix everything together.
If you are feeding a crowd you can update the recipe below and change the number of servings to adapt this recipe to bigger serving size.
If you need this chili to stay warm all day long for an event you can transfer it to a crockpot and keep it on warm.
If you have extra chili you don't want to freeze you can use it on tater tots or french fries for a fun topping.
Can You Freeze Hot Dog Chili?
Yes, You can easily make a double batch and freeze the leftovers for another day. Just place the chili once it has cooled in a freezer bag or airtight container and store it in the freezer. Don't forget to label the container with the recipe name and date.

I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe! I agree the simmer time is the hardest part. I had to stop my husband from sampling it while it cooked.
