Epic layered Irish Flag Shot perfect for St. Patrick's Day! This easy layered shot combines Green Crรจme de Menthe, Baileys Irish Cream, and Grand Marnier.
Irish Flag Shot
This green, white, and orange layered shot represents the tri-color flag of Ireland. The flag is a vertical tricolor of green, white, and orange.
The shot is made by slowly pouring each layer into a shot glass. To get the distinct layers, pour each layer over the back of a spoon to keep the liqueurs from mixing.
It is the perfect shot for a St. Patrick's Day party!
I love St. Patrick's Day and hope to celebrate it someday in Dublin, Ireland. I have had the opportunity to travel to Ireland twice, and both times, I fell madly deeply in love with the country.ย
It was hard to get on a plane and fly home from Ireland.
One of my life goals is to spend a month exploring Ireland and tracing my family history. Until this dream comes true, I will keep making these fun St. Patrick's Day recipes and sharing them with you all. LOL.
Ingredients Needed
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients for making an epic Irish Flag Shot! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Green Crรจme de Menthe
- Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur
- Grand Marnier Orange Liqueurย
Equipment Needed
- 2 oz shot glass - tall straight shot glasses work the best for this shot recipe. They help create the distinct lines and are the easiest to pour into.
- Bar Spoon/small spoon
- We use OXO Measured Jiggers to make layered drinks. They are easy to hold and pour perfectly.
How to make an Irish Flag Shot
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
Pour the Crรจme de Menthe into the shot glass. Try to pour in the middle of the glass so the green liquid does not get onto the sides. This step will help keep your layers distinct.
Slowly pour the Baileys Irish Cream over the back of a bar spoon onto the green crรจme de menthe. Try to pour as slowly as you can to keep the colors from mixing.
Rotate the shot glass so you are pouring on the opposite side of the Baileys. This step will help keep the layers distinct. Wipe the Baileys off the bar spoon before pouring the Grand Marnier.
Slowly pour the Grand Marnier over the back of the bar spoon

Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
A small spoon will work if you don't have a bartending spoon. Check that the spoon fits inside the shot glass and can pour in the layers of your Irish Flag Shot.
We made this recipe with DeKuyper Green Crรจme de Menthe and Baileys Irish Cream, but you can use any green Crรจme de Menthe and Irish cream you enjoy the taste of.
We even have a homemade Irish cream if you want to go the DIY route for this ingredient.
Similarly, you can use another orange liqueur if you donโt have Grand Marnier as long as it pours orange to create the orange layer.
Vegetarian Option: The Irish Flag Shot is 100 percent vegetarian!
Vegan Option:
Green crรจme de menthe and Grand Marnier vegan, but Baileys contains dairy. If you are vegan or make this layered shooter for vegan friends, Baileys has Baileys Almande, a dairy-free alternative made with vegan-friendly vanilla and almonds.
Gluten-Free:
Grand Marnier and clear and green crรจme de menthe are on Celiac.comโs list of gluten-free liqueurs.
Gluten-free drinkers should use a gluten-free alternative to Baileys, as Baileys does not guarantee that its products are gluten-free.
Alcohol-Free Option:
To make alcohol-free Irish flag shots, replace the green crรจme de menthe, Baileys Irish Cream, and Grand Marnier with NA alternatives.
Larger Group/More Servings:
You must make each Irish Flag Shot individually to give everyone a perfectly layered shot. Plan extra time if you are making these shots for a party.
Sugar-Free:
The written recipe contains 13 grams of sugar per serving. Green crรฉme de menthe, Baileys Irish Cream, and Grand Marnier do not have sugar-free alcoholic substitutes you can buy at the store.
We have seen sugar-free recipes online if you donโt want NA substitutes and are willing to make the ingredients.
