Easy Jelly Donut Shot Recipe tastes fantastic and is perfect for brunch, Easter, or whenever you want a delicious cocktail shot.
Jelly Donut Shot Recipe
We have been having so much fun making layered shots. They look fantastic and taste great.
I admit my husband felt we HAD to go and get epic Jelly Donuts from one of our favorite Spokane Donut Shops, Retro Donuts, for these photos. He said we would be crazy not to have the perfect donuts in the background when making this Jelly-Filled Donut Shot.
I should have recorded his reasoning; it was so amazing. He was all in on the excuse to get some of his favorite doughnuts. Who was I to say no? LOL!
Ingredients
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Jelly Donut Shot! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- RumChata
- Chambord
RumChata - We used RumChata for the creamy taste but you could also use Bailey's Irish Cream if you have it. If you use Bailey's the shot may have a bit of a minty taste so be prepared for that.
Chambord - This raspberry liqueur should layer perfectly with the heavier creamy liquors.
Sugar Rim - If you want to make this layered jam donut shot even sweeter you can rim the shot glass with sugar.
Optional Garnish - Whipped cream, berries
This is one of our favorite 2 ingredient cocktail recipes.
Equipment Needed
- 2-Ounce Shot Glasses: We love these 2-ounce shot glasses, especially for layered shots.
- Bar Spoon: Bar spoons help to create layers in the cocktail shot. They fit perfectly into the cocktail shot glass.
- OXO Angled Jiggers: These jiggers are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.
How to make a Jelly Donut Shot
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
This easy shot recipe doesn't take long to make and tastes great.
Add the RumChata to the bottom of the shot glass. Try to pour in the middle of the shot glass so there aren't smears down the side and to maintain a distinct layer between the RumChata and the Chambord.
Slowly add the Chambord to the shot glass over the back of a cocktail spoon. The bartending spoon will help spread the liquid into a layer on top of the RumChata.
Make sure to pour slowly over the back of the spoon so the Chambord layers nicely.ย
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead: We recommend making the Jelly Donut Shot as you plan to drink it so you donโt lose the layered presentation.

Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
We used RumChata because of its creamy taste, but you could also use Bailey's Irish Cream if you have it. The shot may taste minty and not as jelly-donut-like if you use Bailey's.
Vegetarian + Vegan Option:ย
This decadent shot is vegetarian but not vegan, as RumChata contains dairy and Chambord contains honey.
We have yet to see a store-bought vegan RumChata alternative, but many recipes are online if you want to go the DIY route. Baileys has Baileys Almande, a vegan Irish cream alternative made with almonds.
A raspberry liqueur that contains no animal-derived ingredients works as a Chambord alternative.
Gluten-Free: RumChata and Chambord are on Celiac.comโs list of gluten-free liqueurs, making the Jelly Donut Shot safe for a gluten-free diet.
Alcohol-Free Option: Replace RumChata and Chambord with NA alternatives to make alcohol-free Jelly Donut Shots.
Smaller Serving Size: The written recipe makes a 2-ounce shot. For smaller 1-ounce shots, divide it between two shot glasses.
Larger Group/More Servings: Make your Jelly Donut Shots one at a time to make the layered effect visible in each shot.
Sugar-Free:ย
The written recipe contains 9 grams of sugar per serving.
We do not recommend the Jelly Donut Shot to anyone watching their sugar intake. RumChata and Chambord do not have sugar-free alternatives.

Tips for the Best Jelly Donut Shot
- If you like a cold cocktail shot, chill your ingredients for 20-30 minutes before making this drink.
- We use these mini angled measuring cups to make pouring the liqueur into the shot glass easier. They are small enough to fit comfortably in your hand to ensure a slow pour.
