Easy Pumpkin Angel Food Cake Recipe perfect for Fall parties, Thanksgiving or any day you are craving a Pumpkin Dessert.
Pumpkin Angel Food Cake
We love easy dessert recipes that take minutes to prepare! This time of year we are diving into all the pumpkin recipes we can make.
It has been a rotation of apple cider and pumpkin recipes in our house the past few weeks. My husband comes home from work and asked which one is happening every day. LOL!
I have been throwing in a few creepy Halloween recipes just to see if I can surprise him.
We do not add icing normally to this cake, but you could easily drizzle cream cheese frosting or a glaze over the top of the cake.
Ingredients
This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make Pumpkin Angel Food Cake! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Angel Food Cake Mix
- Water
- Pumpkin Puree/canned pumpkin
- Pumpkin Pie Spice
Angel Food Cake Mix - Use the mix with one bag of mix. We have not tried any other type of angel food cake mix with this recipe. Check out all of our Cake Mix Recipes
Optional - cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, vanilla
Garnish - Whipped cream or cool whip, pumpkin pie spice.
Equipment Needed
Large Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.
Bundt Cake Pan - We like this Bundt Cake Pan since it has easy-to-grip sides on it to make it easier to remove from the oven. You can also use an angel food cake pan.
Heat resistant potholdersย - A couple of years ago we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.
Cooling Rack - A cooling rack is a great way to cool the cake down.
Serrated Knife - To cut the pumpkin angel food cake
How to make Pumpkin Angel Food Cake
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
Don't forget to preheat the oven!
Step 1 - Combine angel food cake mix and water. Gently mix until the batter is fluffy.
Step 2 - Add in pumpkin pie spice and stir
Step 3 - Gently fold in half of the pumpkin puree, and fold in gently until combined. Add in 2nd half of the can of pumpkin until mixture is combined.
Step 4 - Pour into a Bundt cake pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
Step 5 - Bake until golden brown and the cake springs back when touched.
Cool completely before serving.
Gently turn the pan upside down and it should easily slide out onto a cake plate or serving plate. If it doesn't easily slide out you can gently slide a knife along the sides of the pan to help remove it.
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead โ We like making this just before serving it for the best taste and texture. That being said it can be made the day ahead of time just make sure you store it properly.
Storage โ Store pumpkin angel food cake at room temperature in an airtight container. It can also be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Freezing/How to freeze โ Wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap, then foil, and place in an airtight freezer safe container.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions - We use a boxed angel food cake mix but you can definitely make homemade angel food cake.
Vegetarian Option - This recipe is vegetarian.
Vegan Option โ Angel Food Cake mix does contain eggs. You can buy vegan angel food cake mix on Amazon.
Gluten Free - We suggest using a gluten free angel food cake mix. There are a few options available on Amazon.
Smaller Serving Size โ This recipe is difficult to make in a smaller size. If you only need a portion of the pumpkin angel food cake I would freeze the portion you don't need for later.
Larger Group/More servings -ย While this recipe doesn't double easily you can make multiple cakes one after another.
Tips for the best Pumpkin Angel Food Cake
We do not use a hand mixer or stand mixer for this recipe so we can easily maintain the fluffy air in the angel food cake.
