Earlier this week I had the opportunity to take a Skywalker Ranch Tour and photos from Skywalker Ranch during the #strangemagicevent. This was truly a pinch me is this seriously happening moment.
Skywalker Ranch Tour
I never thought I would have the chance to watch a movie with George Lucas in his custom-designed best in the world theater at Skywalker Ranch. You know how people always say to dream big well this is one of those big dream moments.
The entire time we were at Skywalker Ranch I was waiting for someone to pinch me and for me to snap out of the dream I was having. It was truly just amazing. I am so excited to share with you some of the photos that I took during our tour. You all know that I take 100's of photos so I won't make you look at all of them but there are quite a few. 🙂
Skywalker Ranch is over 5,000 acres located about 40 minutes from San Francisco. The ranch is home to the offices of George Lucas and Skywalker Sound, the audio post-production facility.
Skywalker Sound is housed in this 155,000 square foot building features a world-class scoring stage, six mix studios, ADR and Foley stages, 34 editing suites, and a 300-seat screening room.
The building also holds part of George Lucas's private movie art collection. We learned that George Lucas has the largest movie poster collection in the world.
Here are a few of the posters that we saw during our tour.
We had the opportunity to screen the new movie Strange Magic that comes out on January 23, 2015. This movie was created by George Lucas and was so much fun!
The movie was screened in the Stag Theater inside the technical building. This 300 seat theater may be the best theater in the world. It was created to George Lucas's specifications and was truly amazing.
On either side of the theater screen, you can see the statues from Palpatine's Office.
One of my favorite parts of the technical building was the amount of open space. There were chairs, couches, and comfortable seating areas all over the building. I could easily spend a few days working in this building and being inspired by all of the creativity.
Are you ready to head outside and check out the grounds of Skywalker Ranch?
When you walk out of the Technical Building you are greeted with rows of grapevines and a stunning view of Lake Ewok.
To the left from the Technical Building you can see more of the vineyards and the Main House.
The grounds of Skywalker Ranch are truly stunning. I can't believe how green and lush the grounds were in January. I would love to see the ranch during the Fall when the grapevines are lush and filled with grapes.
There is a Skywalker Ranch store located on-site along with a swimming pool and gym facilities. We had the opportunity to do a bit of shopping at the ranch and it was so much fun. I picked up a gorgeous bottle of Pinot from the Skywalker Vineyards. I can't wait to see how it tastes.
We are saving it for a special event since I am not sure if I will ever be able to buy another bottle again. You can only shop at the ranch store if you are working at Skywalker Ranch or visiting like we were invited to do.
Skywalker Ranch is not open to the public. There is an area near the Presidio in San Francisco that is open to the public. The park has a Yoda fountain that the public is welcome to visit.
The Main House is home to the offices of George Lucas. His personal office is located here along with conference rooms and the company research library. Sadly there are no photos allowed on the inside of the building.
The front porch has amazing views over Skywalker Ranch.
When we walked in the doors of the Main House I honestly didn't know where to look first. On one side you have a display case with just a few of the amazing awards and accolades George Lucas has received. On the other side, you have a case filled with movie props including Light Sabers, Charlie Chaplin's hat, a whip from Indiana Jones, A lightsaber that went up in space, and models from the original Star Wars movies.
Skywalker Ranch Library
Check out the library inside of the Main House. Lucasfilm was kind enough to share this photo with us. There are books on every subject you can imagine inside the library. Artists are able to use the library to research for the movies they are working on. The librarian advised us that between all of the libraries available to the artists there are well over 30,000 books.
Behind the Main House, there is a gorgeous garden and fountain area.
Where is Skywalker Ranch?
Skywalker Ranch is located about 40 minutes outside of San Francisco, California in Marin County
Can you visit Skywalker Ranch?
Public tours are not available for Skywalker Ranch. You have to be invited to the grounds in order to view them. You can visit the Yoda Fountain in the Presidio in San Francisco.
Make sure and check out Strange Magic when it opens in theaters on January 23, 2015. The movie is filled with music we all love and a fun engaging storyline that is great for all ages.
Keep an eye out for our interview with George Lucas coming out next week! Plus we will have more info on the new movie Strange Magic!
