We have been having so much fun making candy-inspired cocktails. I am pretty sure my husband loves all of the extra candy he keeps stealing for work.

This Tootsie Roll Drink is great for a Halloween party or any party! A couple of simple ingredients and you have a great sweet cocktail shot.

This easy shot recipes takes a minute to prepare, and you are ready.

Did you know that the Tootsie Roll was invented in 1896 by Leo Hirschfield who named the Tootsie Roll Candy after his daughter.

In 1905, Tootsie Rolls were delivered by Horse and Buggy when they moved to a New York Candy Factory.

By 1916 there was a Tootsie Roll Delivery Truck. Tootsie Pop were invented in 1931. Can you believe 90 years later we still don't know how many licks it takes to reach the center. LOL

Today 64 million Tootsie Rolls are made every day...woah! I thought it was so much fun learning a little bit about the history of the Tootsie Roll.

You only need 2 ingredients for this easy shot recipe!

Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
Orange Juice

Optional Garnish - Mini Tootsie Roll or a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry

Kahlua - You can use any coffee-flavored liqueur, but we prefer Kahlua.

Orange Juice - No pulp works best.

Equipment Needed

2 ounce shot glasses - We love these 2 oz shot glasses especially for layered shots.

How to make a Tootsie Roll Shot

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Step 1 - Gather all ingredients and supplies

Step 2 - Pour Kahlua and Orange Juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Step 3 - Shake and strain into a shot glass. Enjoy!

Recipe Variations

Substitutions - Kahlua can be substituted with other coffee liqueurs including Patron XO Café, Café Granita Coffee Liqueur, Tia Maria Coffee Liqueur, Mr. Black's Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur

Variations - I have seen this recipe made with root beer instead of orange juice.

Vegetarian Option - Kahlua is vegetarian and can be used.

Vegan Option – Kahlua is not vegan. We suggest using a vegan coffee liqueur like Cafetino Vegan Coffee Liqueur.

Gluten Free - Kahlua's known ingredients are all gluten free.

Alcohol Free Option/Mocktail – You can use a non-alcoholic coffee liqueur to make this a mocktail.

Smaller Serving Size – This recipe makes a 2 ounce cocktail shot. You can serve this as a 1 ounce shot.

Larger Group/More servings – This cocktail shot can be made in a pitcher or larger serving vessel to help pour more drinks for an event/party. You can change the serving size on the recipe card below to get the ingredient amounts for a larger serving.

Recipe Tips

For a bit more of a chocolate flavor you can add in creme de cacao liqueur. This cocktail already has a sweet chocolatey taste

For a stronger cocktail shot, you can exchange the orange juice with orange curacao or triple sec Orange Liqueur.

There are recipes that use root beer, espresso vodka, or amaretto, but we have not had a chance to try them yet.

This recipe can be doubled if you want to turn it into a Tootsie Roll Cocktail and serve in an old-fashioned glass.
